I know how much you love Guthrie Govan, and how much you enjoy reading about him. I mean, what could be more interesting than a blog about Guthrie Govan? Well, I am a writer so I can come up with a few things, but that should not discourage you from reading this blog.

Guthrie Govan is a professional guitarist who has played with some of the best and most famous bands in the world. He started playing guitar when he was five years old. When he was eight, his family moved to England where he attended school and began studying music at the Royal Academy of Music.

When he was twelve years old, he joined his first band called The Strats (after his favourite guitar). At thirteen years old, he formed the group called “The New Wave” with guitarist James LoMenzo, bassist John Entwistle and drummer Kevin Moore. They recorded three albums before disbanding in 1996. The last album they made together was called “A Cappella.”

Guthrie Govan is a virtuoso guitarist and guitar teacher, known for his work with the bands The Aristocrats, Asia, GPS, The Young Punx and The Fellowship as well as his solo project Erotic Cakes.

Guthrie was born 27th December 1971 in Chelmsford, Essex. He displayed an interest in music from a young age – he is reported to have sung the riff to Deep Purple’s “Smoke On The Water” at the age of just three months old! He began playing guitar at the age of four, starting with a plastic guitar that belonged to his older brother. According to Guthrie he would play along with whatever was on the radio at that time.

Guthrie was soon given a proper guitar (a second-hand Fender Musicmaster) by his parents and began learning how to play. His earliest musical influences included Jimmy Page and Steve Morse. In 1985 Guthrie took part in a local talent contest in which he won first prize with a composition of his own entitled “A Slight Distraction”.

From 1986 Guthrie attended Shenfield High School where he studied A-Levels in Music and English.[1] Whilst at school he played in various bands covering songs by Van Halen,

Govan has used a wide range of guitars but is mostly associated with Carvin guitars and currently endorses them. He has also endorsed Framus guitars, Ibanez guitars (although he is no longer an official artist), Mesa/Boogie amplifiers, Ernie Ball strings and Xotic Effects pedals.

Govan was born in Chelmsford, Essex. He first came to prominence when joining the band Asia in 2006 for their Omega tour. Asia’s original guitarist Steve Howe had left the group to reform Yes making way for Govan to join the band temporarily. However, while the band was touring with him they received news that Howe wanted to return to the band so Govan’s tenure was cut short.

In 2007 he joined supergroup GPS formed by former Journey keyboardist Jonathan Cain with bassist Marco

Govan received a scholarship to attend the Royal College of Music in London at age 18. His teachers included Ron Forbes-Roberts and John Wheatcroft. After graduating from RCM with an honors degree in 1994, Govan continued his studies with a period of private tutelage under ex-Zappa/Dire Straits guitarist Mike Miller. His other influences are Allan Holdsworth, Shawn Lane, Frank Gambale, Scott Henderson, Greg Howe and many more.

In June 2012 Guthrie released his first solo album Erotic Cakes on Sterling Ball’s record label Bigsby Records. In the same year he appeared on Steven Wilson’s album Get All

Govan was born in Chelmsford, Essex on 27 December 1971. His mother is Australian and his father is British. He began playing at age five, inspired by his parents’ eclectic musical tastes (his mother had been a folk singer) and his own discovery of the guitar riff from “Smoke on the Water”. He cites Steve Hackett (of Genesis) as a major early influence.

Govan attended King Edward VI Grammar School in Chelmsford. He played classical guitar as a child and achieved a grade 8 distinction at age 11. In his teens he discovered rock music and became interested in more technical guitar playing. After receiving tuition from Pete Friesen he obtained a scholarship to attend Southend High School for Boys where he studied jazz and received classical guitar training from Linda Merrick of the Royal Academy of Music.
