Tosin Abasi – The Road Lays Waste
There is a new Tosin Abasi video out. This one is for the track ‘The Road Lays Waste’ off his Animal As Leaders debut album. It’s really quite impressive, and I can’t stop listening to it. This guy is such an amazing player, as anyone who has seen him play live will attest to. Check out some of the other videos of him that I have posted on this site. Enjoy!

Tosin Abasi, guitarist for Animals as Leaders, has released the second music video from his solo project, Tosin Abasi. The Road Lays Waste is a track off his debut album, Tosin Abasi.
The new video takes us back to the 80s again with a tribute to the golden age of VHS horror. It’s a great song and the video is damn creepy. Make sure you watch it in HD!
The Road Lays Waste, is the third music video off of Animals As Leaders self titled debut album. The video features Tosin Abasi, Javier Reyes and Navene Koperweis (ex) jamming in a studio with a desert road behind them. There are a few scenes of the band members walking down the road, but most of it is just them playing their instruments with an empty road behind them.
The video was directed by David Brodsky and edited by Allison Woest. The song is mostly instrumental, although there are lyrics near the end of it.
Abasi said that he got his guitar style from trying to play like “Shawn Lane, Allan Holdsworth and Eric Johnson”.
Hello everyone, I have been a busy little bee recently so apologies for not posting as much as i’d like to – I promise to make it up to you.
I am a huge fan of Tosin Abasi, the guitarist from Animals As Leaders, and he just released an instructional video which shows how he writes music. It is a fascinating insight into his process and is definitely something that will help me in my own writing.
Check out the video:
Abasi is such an interesting musician because he has taken guitar playing to a new level, where you can actually write out rythms on guitar that would normally be played by drums. He does this with complex tapping patterns combined with incredibly fast alternate picking.
In this video he shows us how we can use these techniques to make our own music. There are 3 lessons in the video (10 mins each) where he discusses working from scales and chords, using rhythm and then incorporating it all together to create a song.
The way that he uses these things is very different from anything i’ve seen before and it really has made me think about my own approach to making music. It’s not something that i’ll be able to implement straight away but there are certainly elements of what Tosin does that I can
Tosin Abasi is one of the most respected guitar players in modern music. He has a unique playing style that is used to mimic the sound of a drum kit, and a skill set that has made him one of the most sought after guitarists in metal music.
Tosin Abasi was born in Nigeria. His father was a soldier who fought in World War II, and his mother was a nurse. When he was young, he would play with his brother on their guitars and drums, but it wasn’t until he was eight that he started learning to play the guitar himself.
He began by taking lessons from a local teacher, and then later from an American teacher who had come to Nigeria on vacation. From there he went on to study at Musicians Institute in Los Angeles, California, where he continued to hone his craft.
Tosin Abasi has always been interested in music, especially rock music. He says that when he was younger he would listen to bands like Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, which inspired him to start playing the guitar. Once he learned how to play the guitar well enough, he decided it was time to start making his own music.
He began by writing songs for other bands before forming his own band called Animals
I woke up this morning to find Tosin Abasi’s new video for his solo project Animals As Leaders. It is a song off of the new album “Weightless” and it is titled “The Woven Web”. I was blown away by the video, but it wasn’t because of the usual reasons.
It wasn’t because of the incredible guitar playing (although there certainly was plenty of that). It wasn’t because of the crunchy production, or that it was filmed live in one take (although I am a sucker for that sort of thing). It wasn’t even because of the fact that Tosin set up an elaborate stringed instrument made out of tuned metal bars which the guitar strings pass over before they go to tuning pegs.
No, this video is significant because it demonstrates just how far Tosin Abasi has come as a musician and composer since he started out with Animals As Leaders’ debut album.
