I have played in many bands over the years, but most of my time has been spent doing studio work for commercials, soundtracks and other recording projects.

For the past 8 years I have dedicated most of my time to private guitar lessons.

Once you have a guitar, you need to learn how to read music. This is fairly easy and only takes a few minutes. Use your index finger on the first note, middle on the second, ring on the third and pinky on the fourth. It’s important to remember that your fingers are numbered 1-4 not 0-3. If you don’t remember this when you start reading music, it can be confusing and lead to frustration later.

There are also many different types of guitars. The most popular are electric guitars and acoustic guitars (acoustic guitars are usually more common in professional music). Some people prefer electric guitars because they can be easier for beginners.

Other types of guitars include bass guitars, classical guitars, banjos and mandolins (which are not as popular).

Curious About Guitar Lessons?

As a beginner, or even as an intermediate player, the thought of taking guitar lessons can be quite intimidating.

Am I really ready to play in front of someone else? Am I good enough to take lessons? What if my teacher is terrible? What if all that money and time is wasted?

These are things that I asked myself when I first started taking lessons. It’s only natural to feel a little anxious about starting something new.

But what I found out was that these concerns were unwarranted because taking lessons actually made me improve so much faster than I could have on my own.

It wasn’t easy and it didn’t happen overnight, but over time I went from being a complete beginner to having the ability to play songs with structure and sound like a professional (well, sort of).
