When I was a kid my parents got me the kit from Stewart MacDonald. I think it was their first foray into building guitars, and they were impressed with how much you could get for your money. All the pieces came un-cut and pre-drilled, just like I saw on TV. The guitar was one of those classic Les Paul shapes, with two humbucker pickups, two volume and tone knobs, and three way pick up selector switch.
I was really excited when I got it out of the box, but my joy quickly faded as I ran into problem after problem. First off, the instructions were terrible; they didn’t explain anything in any detail. They used pictures that were blown up so you couldn’t read any of the labels or see what was going on.
