Ever since I started playing guitar, I’ve been trying to make it more interesting. It’s not that the guitar or music is boring, it’s the fact that so many people play it and play it the same way.
My first solution was using different tunings. I quickly realized a problem with that: only one song in standard tuning works in that tuning. So, while it was insanely fun to play Nirvana’s “Come As You Are” in Drop C on my electric guitar, it was pretty much impossible to play anything else in that tuning. After a couple years of experimenting with various tunings and various songs, I came up with a better solution: start writing songs.
Writing songs is different from playing other people’s songs because you’re able to make your own style with them and not be restricted by what other people have already done. But even then, there are still problems: especially when you’re starting out, your songs tend to sound like everything else out there.
So, how do you make your guitar playing more interesting? Here are three tips for all levels of guitar players to make their music more unique and appealing:
Tip 1: Listen to other people’s music and learn from them
If you are trying to become a better guitar player, then listening to other’s music is a great way of learning what works well. Even if you have your own style, there is no reason not to learn from others. You can learn some of the same techniques that they do, such as chord progression or song structure. You can also see how they use different styles or techniques in their music. This will give you ideas of what works well and what doesn’t.
Tip 2: Try out new things on the guitar
Even if you are good at playing certain styles or techniques, it doesn’t mean that you should always play that way. Sometimes it can be fun to try out new things on the guitar. This can give you a fresh perspective and help improve your skills in other areas as well. It is important not to get stuck in one area for too long because this can cause boredom and lack of motivation.
Tip 3: Practice makes perfect
The last tip for improving your guitar playing is practicing regularly. If you want to make your playing more interesting, then you should try practicing every day for at least thirty minutes per session. This will allow your muscles memory to get used to playing the
1. Play different rhythms
By far the easiest way to make your guitar playing more interesting is to start playing different rhythmic patterns. A rhythm is just a repeated pattern of notes that you play for a set period of time.
The most common rhythm in music is the quarter note. The quarter note gets the beat, or count, and there are 4 quarter notes to each measure of music. This is the basic rhythm you hear in all pop and rock music, but it’s also in a lot of metal, blues, country, and other styles too. An example of a quarter note would be strumming once every beat.
To make your guitar playing more interesting, try playing rhythms other than just quarter notes. There are lots of possibilities here: half notes (2 per measure), dotted half notes (3 per measure), eighth notes (8 per measure), triplets (12 per measure), sixteenth notes (16 per measure), etc. You can combine these into various patterns as well, such as two eighth notes followed by two sixteenths followed by four sixteenths. Whatever you choose to play, even if it’s just one or two new rhythms, it will sound better than just using straight up quarter notes all the time.
I’ve been playing the guitar for 10 years, and I’ve met hundreds of other guitar players along the way. One of the most common problems I see with beginner and intermediate musicians is a lack of interesting playing.
A lot of players can play well enough. They’ll have a couple of songs they can play through cleanly, throw in an occasional pentatonic scale, and string together some chords to make them sound decent. They can play a song to pass the time, but they’re not making anything interesting.
The problem is that they’re not thinking about what they’re doing. They’re just going through the motions on autopilot. There are lots of different reasons why this happens. Maybe they’re just starting out, so they don’t know much about music theory yet. Maybe they feel like there’s too much to learn about music theory, so it seems pointless to try to learn any of it. Maybe they learned how to play a few chords from their cousin, and feel like anything else would be too much work.
Whatever the reason may be, you don’t have to do that forever! You can break out of this rut by practicing these three habits:
Tip 1: Play the guitar with a pick or fingerstyle.
This is perhaps the most important tip for you to play in a more interesting way. The pick is, of course, an essential part of playing the guitar, and one of the most important parts of your playing style. It is not only useful for making your guitar sound better, but also for adding variety to your playing. The pick is so versatile that it can be used to create all sorts of different sounds and styles, while keeping a consistent tone throughout your song.
Tip 2: Use the guitar’s fretboard as a guide.
The fretboard is an extremely helpful tool for helping you find new notes on the guitar. It’s a great way to find out what notes will make your music sound better. If you’re having trouble finding new notes, try using the fretboard as a guide. You can use it to find notes that are not in key or chords that don’t fit well with each other.
Tip 3: Use your voice to add color and depth to your song.
Your voice can be used to create a variety of sounds and colors in your song, from subtle changes in pitch and tone to dramatic vocal effects. For example, if you’re singing along with an acoustic
Tone is a very important part of playing the guitar. When you are playing a song, you need to be sure that your tone is well matched to the melody that you want to play.
There are many different kinds of tones. The most common one is called the “bright” tone, which is also known as the “bright” tone in the music industry. This tone can be found in many popular songs and can be used for any type of music.
The second type of tone is called the “warm” tone, or “warm” sound. This tone can be used for slow songs and slower melodies. A good example of a song with this kind of tone would be “I’m Yours”.
The third type of tone is called the “dark” or “soft” sound. This tone can be used for fast songs and fast melodies. A good example of a song with this kind of tone would be “Ain’t No Sunshine”.
