Five years ago I decided to start a blog that would be around some of the best heavy metal bands that have been releasing records in recent years.

I’ve been a fan of heavy metal since I was a kid and felt it was a great way to bring people together, given the fact that metalheads are so passionate about their music.

I enjoy writing about metal bands and hope to continue doing so for years to come.

I have been a heavy metal fan for nearly 30 years now and I never tired of listening to it. Every time I go to a concert, I am shocked at the number of teenagers who are there to experience the music I have loved for so many years. Heavy metal is not going anywhere.

Heavy metal has always been a genre that has evolved over the years, and while the original bands such as Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin are still releasing records on occasion, the majority of great new metal is coming from newer bands.

This blog will focus on the top 10 heavy metal bands that have released an album in the last 5 years. I will be using this blog to support my thesis that heavy metal is just as relevant today as it was in the 1970s when it first became popular.

Forget the American Idol phenomenon and the latest dance craze, heavy metal is still alive and well today. In fact, some of the best metal bands are releasing records right now. Here are five of them:

When I set out to make a list of the Top 5 Heavy Metal Bands, I knew it would be tough. How do you choose just five?

After much thought and deliberation, I have decided there are five bands who stand above all others. These are the top five heavy metal bands:

Metallica. Metallica is a heavy metal band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 1981. The band was founded by drummer Lars Ulrich and vocalist/guitarist James Hetfield. The current line-up features long-time lead guitarist Kirk Hammett (who joined the band in 1983) and bassist Robert Trujillo (a member since 2003). Metallica’s early releases included fast tempos, instrumentals, and aggressive musicianship that placed them as one of the founding “big four” bands of thrash metal. The band earned a growing fan base in the underground music community and critical acclaim, with the 1986 release Master of Puppets described as one of the most influential and “heavy” thrash metal albums.

The band achieved substantial commercial success with their eponymous fifth album Metallica (also known as The Black Album), which debuted at number one on ten charts worldwide. With this release the band expanded

Dreadnought is a progressive metal band from Denver, Colorado. Their music has been described as “aggressive” and “melodic”, with a “truly unique sound,” which is “unafraid to be beautiful.” The band emerged in 2011 with a self-titled album that was entirely instrumental. After adding vocals on their second album, Bridging Realms (2014), they released their first full-length record, Bridging Realms, in 2015.

The band’s name is derived from the dreadnought, the largest class of battleship built at the turn of the 20th century. The dreadnought possessed a large number of heavy guns and was designed for speed and maneuverability. Dreadnought has been compared to progenitors such as Mastodon, Baroness and Between The Buried And Me.

As I have done the past few years, here is my list of the best albums released in 2015. It will come as no surprise to most of you that it’s pretty much a heavy metal list. With some death metal, thrash metal and hard rock thrown in for good measure.

As always, these are not necessarily the albums that sold the most or had the biggest impact on the scene. These are just my favorite albums from a musical standpoint during 2015. And I’m sticking to albums released in 2015. So you won’t find stuff like Faith No More’s Sol Invictus on this list even though it was one of my favorite releases of the year (and perhaps my
