Keith Urban’s love for Telecasters is well-documented, and he’s been known to use them extensively in his performances and recordings. However, he’s expressed a desire for something new and different in his next guitar. This desire has led him to collaborate with Paul Reed Smith, a renowned luthier known for his exceptional craftsmanship and innovative designs.

* What exactly are Clarence’s shortcomings?

This statement reveals a complex interplay of factors that contribute to the frustration of a musician. It highlights the limitations of a particular instrument, the desire for improvement, and the inherent challenges of achieving artistic excellence. The musician’s statement about “playing anything on Clarence” suggests a level of versatility and mastery over the instrument.

And it’s got these pickups that are specifically Paul’s design. “They’re humbuckers but have an amazing, almost Dumble harmonic range. I can get squeaks and squawks out of them; unlike any other guitar I’ve got. And the playability is just beautiful.”

* Urban’s vision for a Tele 2.0 is to create a guitar that is more versatile and responsive than the standard Telecaster. * He aims to achieve this by incorporating elements of the PRS Custom 24 and the PRS McCarty. * Urban believes that a Telecaster should be more than just a “blues” guitar. * He wants to expand its sonic palette and make it suitable for a wider range of genres.

In 2019, PRS introduced the SE Custom 24, a model that was designed to be a more affordable alternative to the iconic Custom 24. The SE Custom 24 was a huge success, selling out quickly and garnering a lot of positive reviews. This success story demonstrates the potential of PRS to create high-quality instruments at a more accessible price point.

Urban and Smith are set to continue working on the signature build, with the industry’s curiosity certainly rising as time goes on.
